DESCRIPTION:ASL Interpretation is available. \nIn honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day\, gather with us on-site at the Museum for a live opera performance of the first act of Two Remain: Out of Darkness\, in partnership with Chicago College of Performance Arts\, Roosevelt University. \nHer Jewish identity hidden\, Krystyna Zywulska was a political prisoner at Auschwitz-Birkenau. In secret\, she composed lyrics to inspire fellow prisoners\, even as she carried out her harrowing job in the Effektenkammer (storage room) cataloging the personal effects of thousands of prisoners before they were murdered in the gas chambers next door. Many years after the war\, a journalist asks Krystyana to share her stories\, hoping to record them on a tape player. DESCRIPTION:Chicago Opera Theater (COT) kicks off their 50th year with Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten and a libretto by Eric Crozier. \nThe ~Vibe~ – Finding oneself\, indie film comedy\, breaking societal expectations \nThis comedic coming-of-age story celebrates COT’s rich history of presenting Britten works including the Chicago premiere of this piece in 1979. Coming back to Chicago after 33 years\, this new production will be conducted by the world-renowned Dame Jane Glover and staged by leading musical theatre director Stephen Sposito. \nEnvisioned by Sposito as an indie film in the vein of Wes Anderson and the Coen Brothers\, we invite you to the town of Loxford\, England where none of the young ladies live up to Lady Billows’ inscrutable moral standards to be crowned May Queen. In a strange twist\, it turns out the grocer’s son\, Albert Herring\, fits the bill and a May King is crowned instead! After being mocked by his friends for receiving the honor\, Albert takes his first steps into independence by embarking on a night of debauchery. \nSung in English with English subtitles. \nAn interactive touch tour will begin at 1 PM on the stage \nCOT will no longer require patrons attending performances to provide proof of full vaccination.
