SUMMARY:Theater of the Mind: Relaxed Performance at The Goodman - Reid Murdoch Building
DESCRIPTION:Relaxed Performance on Wednesday\, July 15 at 7 pm \nCreated by David Byrne & Mala Gaonkar \nDirected by Andrew Scoville \nProduced in Special Arrangement with Arbutus \nIT’S ALL INSIDE YOUR HEAD.\nBUT IS ANY OF IT REAL? \nCo-created by Academy\, Grammy\, and Tony Award-winning artist David Byrne* and writer Mala Gaonkar\, Theater of the Mind is a new theatrical experience you’ll see\, feel\, taste and hear. Inspired by both historical and current neuroscience research\, the show takes you on an immersive journey inside how we see and create our worlds. SUMMARY:A Seat at the Table: Accessibility at Film Festivals Webinar Series
DESCRIPTION:Film Festival Alliance invites you to join a new webinar series exploring the experience of disabled patrons at film festivals\, and the real impact that good (and bad) accessibility can have on that experience. \nThis series is free and open to all\, though registration is required. \nStructured around the theme of a dinner party\, each session welcomes guests with diverse perspectives on disability to the table for candid conversation on accessibility in the festival space. \nJoin us on Thursday\, July 23rd at 2PM EST for our first session in the series – Setting the Table: Intro to Disability\, Statistics & the ‘Fear of Mistakes’ \nBefore you can serve the meal\, you have to set the table.\nIn our inaugural session\, we are laying the groundwork for festival accessibility\, exploring what true access looks like\, why it benefits everyone\, and how to build a roadmap that survives seasonal staff turnover.\nWe will openly tackle the “perfection paralysis”—the fear of making mistakes that so often leads to inaction—and show you how to start exactly where you are. \nRegister to Join Us on July 23rd here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/8Y9yl3zoRieeUhS8zTaeQA#/registration \nCelebrate Disability Pride month with us by joining the live webinar. You will get direct\, real-time access to our expert panel for an interactive Q&A. We invite attendees to submit their access questions ahead of time\, so we can work to address those questions in this series. This is your opportunity to bring your specific festival logistics\, anxieties\, and questions directly to the table. \nWe also invite you to share your access wins! We want to celebrate the creative solutions you have brought to your festival\, and share them with everyone so we can all benefit and learn together. \nYour Hosts:\nMikaela McParlan: Filmmaker\, Accessibility Advocate\, Festival Organizer\, and the Film Festival Alliance Accessibility Advisor.\nMichael McNeely: Media critic\, and legal advocate who brings a vital\, first-person perspective on navigating film spaces as a d/Deaf-blind patron.\nMelissa Simpson: Inclusion specialist\, festival consultant\, and educator dedicated to breaking down physical and digital barriers for disabled audiences. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Octet: Open Captioned Performance at the Goodman Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Open-Captioned Performance Friday\, July 24 at 7:30pm \nRaven Theatre’s “astonishing” (Chicago Tribune) a cappella musical—hailed as “one of the most engrossing pieces of theater this year” (Chicago Reader)—comes to The Goodman for a limited run. \nIn an anonymous meeting room on the North Side of Chicago\, a group of people —always eight—gather to sing. Best known for the Broadway hit Natasha\, Pierre\, & The Great Comet of 1812\, Dave Malloy’s Octet uses chamber-inspired a cappella music to explore the total impact of life online. Hailed by The New York Times as “the most original and topical musical of the year” for its 2019 Off-Broadway premiere\, this inventive and acutely relevant piece reflects the perils of the digital age. \nUse code OPEN for $44 ($35 ticket plus $9 handling fee) \n  \nAccessibility: Open Captioning \nWebsite: https://www.goodmantheatre.org/show/octet/

SUMMARY:The Beverly Theatre Guild Presents "The Lifespan of a Fact" at the Baer Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Lifespan of a Fact \nThis sharp media satire explores the boundaries between fact and fiction. \nThe Beverly Theatre Guild (BTG) is thrilled to present this timely exploration of journalistic integrity The Lifespan of a Fact on August 14-16\, 2026. In this fun sparring of creativity versus honesty\, fresh-out-of-Harvard fact checker Jim Fingal faces off against esteemed writer John D’Agata\, whose new essay might be able to revitalize their fading magazine… if only he could prove its veracity. Taut\, gripping and concerned with exactly how much we can stretch the truth in pursuit of a good story\, The Lifespan of a Fact is based off Fingal and D’Agata’s critically-acclaimed nonfiction book of the same title. The show is one act\, 90 minutes long\, with no intermission. \nThe Lifespan of a Fact will be directed by BTG’s Vice President Sheilah O’Grady (Beverly)\, with Assistant Directed by Morgan Ayres (Palos Heights)\, and produced by BTG General Manager Katie Duffy Regalado (Beverly). \nFor this production\, we have an extraordinary team of exclusively Beverly resident all-stars! Our promising young intern\, Jim Fingal\, will be played by Isaiah Pinzino. Our passionate and highly confident writer\, John D’Agata\, will be played by Patrick Allen. And last but not least\, the cautious no- funny-business editor\, Emily Penrose\, will be played by Jane Flynn-Royko. Ms. Flynn-Royko was last seen with BTG as Mrs. Peacock in our winter play Clue and has since become a member of the guild. \nConsider finishing out your summer and celebrating Back-to-School time with BTG! We are Chicago’s longest-running community theatre company. This “store-front theatre” style smaller-scale production will be in the gallery of the  Fine Arts Building of Morgan Park Academy\, located at 2153 West 111th Street. Information on BTG may be found at beverlytheatreguild.org. \nCONTENT WARNING: THE SHOW DISCUSSES SUICIDE AND OTHER ADULT THEMES AND CONTAINS STRONG ADULT LANGUAGE \n  \n  \nAccessibility: ASL Interpretation \nWebsite: https://beverlytheatreguild.org/btg-tickets/

The piece considers and expands on the themes of war and rebuilding while embodying the resources of the disability community’s collective care and access\, even in the face of bullets\, bombs\, and brutality. This piece takes us through the events of lives marked by tragedy and how communities come together to move forward and build a better world. \nUDF member Bradford Chin presents a selection of three small group works. The kaleidoscopic play of The Vertiginous Thrill of a Flop / PLAY (2026)\, originally created at the University of Wisconsin-Madison\, flits between the extremes of its incoherence to teeter on the edge where we flop\, fly\, or flop into flight—the experimental spirit necessary for our artistic explorations. SOLO Trio (premiere) continues Chin’s SOLO series that explores disability-centered inclusive choreographic practices and challenges how we recognize and conceptualize unison across diverse bodies in motion. The third work\, To be far and close (work in progress)\, gently contemplates the life of shared relationships and how they grow or contract across time and distance. \nMasks are suggested for the audience and will be available at the event. Event will have Air purifiers sponsored by the Clean Air Club. Venue is fully wheelchair accessible. It will be a relaxed performance with various seating options. SUMMARY:Adirondack Chair Circle : ASL performance at Steppenwolf Theatre
DESCRIPTION:ADIRONDACK CHAIR CIRCLE written by Stephanie Alison Walker\nDirected by Pam Mackinnon \nBanna has it all… Or at least that’s what the other suburban moms think. Beneath the charcuterie boards\, backyard soirees and pickleball\, there’s a funny feeling bubbling underneath this seemingly perfect facade. Is it the pressure to save her children from the beliefs of the school district? Or is it just that suspicious crow watching her every move? A piercing world premiere from a playful Chicago voice\, Stephanie Alison Walker’s Adirondack Chair Circle exposes the hilarious hypocrisy of the clubs we join and the company we keep. And has a damn good time doing it. \n$25 tickets available for those using the service!\nVisit https://www.steppenwolf.org/whats-on/accessible-performances for more! \n  \nAccessibility: ASL Interpretation \nWebsite: https://www.steppenwolf.org/events/adirondack-chair-circle-2
