SUMMARY:A.B.L.E Twists and Turns at Museum of Contemporary Art
DESCRIPTION:The show will feature work of 42 members of the A.B.L.E. community including 24 performers with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Over a 10-week rehearsal process\, A.B.L.E.’s ensembles have collaborated to develop original monologues\, scenes\, movement pieces and songs inspired by their own lives. The plot follows a group of strangers on a train ride through vast and varied lands. As the train passes through different landscapes\, faces delays\, and weathers storms\, the passengers share stories from their own journeys about where they came from\, and where they want to go. Come on the journey with us! \nALL TICKETS ARE PAY-WHAT-YOU CAN STARTING AT $15 PER PERSON. YOU CAN PICK THE TIER THAT WORKS FOR YOU.\nSeating for the performances is general admission\, first come first served. The theatre has 296 seats. \nCan’t join us in person? That’s okay! This event suite is designed to promote self-care and wellbeing among K–12 educators. Join us as we combine wellness and art for an unforgettable experience. \nThis is the third and final Color Alchemy: An Immersive Meditative Art Experience\, a sensory experience that invites educators to consciously create art through a meditative medium in order to explore wellness in a unique form. Color Alchemy is a mindful\, intuitive\, and emotionally cathartic way to engage with art and self-expression. In this guided painting experience\, participants physically explore\, express\, and release emotions and energies through the creative act itself. For this workshop: \nCherish Hicks\, well-being curator and founder of Beyond Wellness\, guides you through breathwork\, a guided meditation\, and a sound bath that provide a deep state of relaxation and mindfulness\, awakening your emotions and prepare you for the creative process. However\, children of all ages are welcome! \nJazzmeia Horn is a vocalist and composer\, author\, activist\, educator\, multi-GRAMMY Award nominee\, and winner of the 2015 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition. Praised by The New York Times as “among the most exciting young vocalists in jazz\, with a proud traditionalism that keeps her tightly linked to the sound of classic figures like Nancy Wilson and Betty Carter\, but a vivacity of spirit and conviction that places her firmly in the present\,” Horn makes her Harris Theater debut with performances on the Mix at Six and PNC Family Series in 2024. \nHorn\, who will publish her first children’s book — based on her forthcoming album Messages — in 2024\, is creating a special storyteller-style program for the PNC Family Series that will premiere on the Harris Theater stage.
